Happy Monday!

In Hebrews 10:24 the author writes, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

Growing up in Gerry, NY (That’s Rodeo City USA to you non-natives) when I think of the term “spur” I think about the many times that I have watched cowboys and cowgirls kick their heel against the side of a horse or bull to get it moving.

Now that may not seem to fit within the context of motivating someone to love and good deeds but I believe the author realized that sometimes (often times) we tend to lean toward complacency and need to be reminded in a loving yet firm way to “never tire in doing good”. That’s probably why the author follows up with a challenge in the the next verse…

Hebrews 10:25  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another– and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

So today I want to encourage you. I want to encourage you that following Christ is not foolish even when you can’t immediately see the fruit. I want to encourage you that God has begun a good work in you and will be faithful to complete it. And I want to encourage you to continue getting together with other Christians often and spurring them on with love and encouragement.

Remember, we’re all in this together.

YEEHAW!!!
